Academics

Departmental History

The Department of Economics of Government Girls’ General Degree College, 7, Mayurbhanj Road, Kolkata -23 was established in the year of 2016. The first academic session initiated on 2016-2017 with an order of Higher Education Department, Government of West Bengal and the affiliation of University of Calcutta.

The Honours course was introduced in the department since its inception. Since then, informative lectures along with ample study material have been provided by the esteemed faculty members to the students. The B.A./B.Sc./B.Com. Honours and General courses introduce students to the basics of Micro economics, Macroeconomics, Quantitative techniques, Development economics, Statistics and econometrics, Environmental economics, Financial economics, International trade, Public economics etc. Students in the department are motivated to pursue higher studies to enhance their knowledge and compete in various national and state-level administrative services examinations. With this aim in mind, the departmental teachers organize class lectures; discussion on current affairs and tutorial classes through which the students can get a broader perspective of the latest socio-economic scenario.The department follows Three Year Degree course (1+1+1), CBCS & CCF (under NEP) syllabus as directed by University of Calcutta. The department provide infrastructural facilities like classroom, departmental library, also shares all other central infrastructure of the college like ICT enabled classroom, central library etc.
